Schibaura Water

Urbanberry Design received a start-up subsidy from the Creative Industries Fund NL in spring 2022 to initiate a project in Tokyo, which is a community driven urban design research on the waterfront in the Shibaura-Konan area of Tokyo Minato Ward. The long term goal of the project is to make a presentation of canals and/or waterfront of Tokyo Bay together with stakeholders and to help active communities for the future development. For the start-up, Urbanberry Design proposed three phases of research: 1: preliminary research in NL 2: local research and events in Japan, 3: Analysis.

The purpose in this stage was we could define the scale of the project with a specific location. We reached out possiblerelevant stakeholders such as the local municipality, developers, university professors, urban planners, newspaper journalists, water taxis drivers, area managers, geographers, architects, and the local peopleresidents joined our meetings. We collectively could discuss about the current issues.
