SCHIPHOL AIRPORT RENOVATION OF STAFF ROOMS & SANITAIR

Schiphol Airport is not only focused on developing new facilities but also on maintaining and renovating its existing spaces. Following the impact of Covid-19, the airport initiated a large-scale renovation project involving 120 staff rooms and 220 sanitary facilities. Many areas of the airport were originally constructed in the 1990s and now require updates and maintenance.

For this project, Urbanberry Design, in collaboration with Urban Sync and BCN, developed the TOOLBOX. This design toolkit was created based on user feedback collected by Urban Sync, with Urbanberry translating these insights into architectural solutions. The TOOLBOX was designed to be adaptable, providing a flexible framework that could accommodate any room type and user requirement.

During the design development phase, Urbanberry evaluated all materials to ensure they met Schiphol’s design standards as well as general architectural codes. Additionally, Urbanberry collaborated with BCN on the technical aspects of the design. After analyzing 12 different rooms, Urbanberry crafted the TOOLBOX, which includes a curated selection of materials, key dimensions, and a comprehensive color and material palette. Specialized furniture and pantry elements were designed in collaboration with Lensvelt and Intos, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
