Osaka Dutch Pavilion
UrbanBerry Design was part of a team with Kubik, Overtreders W, Tinker Imagineers and Tentech to produce the architectural design that
won second place in the bid for the Dutch Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. Our entry "Let's Turn Things Around" presents the Dutch vision
for an attractive, clean, green and fun urban future. In a colourful, 100% circular pavilion, visitors can get on their bikes and contribute
to a sustainable future. People are at the centre of our activities.
Inside the pavilion, visitors embark on a bicycle journey and explore the Dutch companies, individuals and collaborations that
are making the world a better, more sustainable and fun place. On the platform, visitors pedal together to reveal a positive vision
of a sustainable future. The design is inspired by classic velodromes, circus tents, fairground merry-go-rounds and park tea pavilions.
The aim was to construct a fully circular pavilion on a solid foundation of rammed earth, made from locally excavated soil and dyed blue
with Japanese indigo pigment. On top of this foundation, a wooden tent-like structure was designed, decorated with a facade of Suntex,
an innovative architectural fabric developed by Studio Pauline van Donge.
